Class of 1968
50th Reunion Weekend Report
On Friday night, October 5, 2018, over 40 classmates, spouses and significant others, made their way to the Point Shirley Association Hall, 1032 Shirley St. (across from the church) for our welcome-home get-together.
On Saturday, 17 classmates took part in a challenging Scavenger Hunt which took them around the town gathering Winthrop information as it related to 1968. The winning team was Klutz & Company, made up of Harold Becker, Nate and Carol (Silver) Rosenthal, and Marcy Edelstein. (See photos on following page) They managed to score the highest number of points of the four teams that participated.
On Saturday afternoon, after the Scavenger Hunt ended, about 50 classmates toured the beautiful and well-appointed new high school with Principal Matt Crombie. Matt is the son of Bill Crombie (Savio '68), who many of us know from St. John's.
After the tour, we had a professional photographer recreate the group photo that appears at the beginning of our yearbook. While we didn't have as many people as the original photo, we did have a good turnout. We expect to be receiving a link to the photographer's website where we can purchase the photo. That will be published here and on our Facebook page.
On Saturday evening, we held the big pahhhty at the Cottage Park Yacht Club. Almost 100 classmates and guests enjoyed a buffet dinner, DJ/dancing and, of course, catching up with classmates they haven't seen in many years.
On Sunday morning, we held a farewell brunch at the Winthrop Arms. About 45 classmates enjoyed a nice breakfast put on by the proprietor, David, the "Doctor" Goll, brother of our classmate, Steven Goll.
