The Town of Winthrop welcomed back the Class of 1968 for our 55th High School Reunion during the weekend of September 29-October 1, 2023. It was a weekend chock-full of memories, laughter, reconnecting with old friends and even making new ones! If you attended, we know you felt the love. If you weren't able to make it, don't miss the next one and be sure to put the 60th Reunion on your calendar! We want it to be bigger and better (if that's possible!)
Some highlights:
Friday night welcome back get-together at the Elks Club. Pizza from Nicks, drinks at the bar and coffee? Maura ordered boxes of Dunkin coffee and Uber Eats showed up with cups and napkins only. Where's the coffee? WTF?
Saturday scavenger hunt. A good time was had by the teams driving around town and trying to earn points. There was some controversy about the answers but we all agreed it was a good time. One of the questions was Who was Larsen? This referred to the character in "The Egg and I", one of our school plays. The answer (not Hucky although someone got points for that answer) was Nate Rosenthal. Apparently, he thought long and hard about who played the character but he couldn't come up with the answer. His team (Clutz's) won the hunt anyway. They were also the winners five years ago. WTF?
Memorial at the Beach. This was a very moving time as we gathered together to remember those in our class we have lost. Susan Marley's daughter beautifully wrote every name on individual rocks. After a beautiful poem recited by Carol and a short prayer by Ken Keating, we walked to the ocean and said the person's name before tossing the rock into the water. There was a little competition about skipping rocks. Not sure who won. WTF?
Saturday night event. This was held at the Cottage Park Yacht Club which is a beautiful room with an incredible view of Boston. The lights were sparkling. We had a memorabilia table with old photos, Little Sir Echo originals, and newspaper clippings. Rudy Cataldo and Brian Beattie were the MCs for the night and set the tone with a lot of laughter. Our professional photographer took some beautiful pictures (to be posted soon). The DJ played tunes from the 50's-70's and threw in some line dancing. All had a good time except no one knew the Macarena. Table decorations by Ida and Charlene were beautiful. WTF?
Sunday Brunch. Held at the Hilton East Boston. Sad to say 'so long' to our classmates but looking ahead to the 60th! WTF?
Scholarship Update. We have collected a good amount of scholarship money to go to two deserving students graduating in 2024. One of the scholarships will go to a student who is taking a class that Bobby Capezza was teaching. There is still time to donate to the scholarship fund and all donations are very appreciated!
Bobby Capezza Trophy. During their welcome speech, Brian and Rudy displayed a new Bobby Capezza Trophy naming him Best Class President. Brian has arranged with the high school for the trophy to go into their trophy cabinet for display.
Where do we go from here? Several classmates are still (!) working to update everyone's contact information. If you know someone who didn't attend or receive any of our communication please let us know. Or, as you retire or move please update us with your new contact information. Please shoot us an email at [email protected] with any changes. Please send this link to any classmates you may be in touch with that we might have missed.
Memory Book. It's not too late to submit your memories to be included in our digital memory book. Please send to the class email: [email protected].
Pictures from the 55th. If you attended the reunion please send your pictures to [email protected]. The website has been updated with photos here. Also visit our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/30700191385 to stay connected.
